When I Grow Up
.

“When I grow up…I want to be…?” is proclaimed by mostly every child, and its within this very phrase that will typically drive the child onto completing or accomplishing their heart’s desire.

Hi, my name is Dr. Jamela Barber, of physical therapy, and I am 25 years old.  I graduated from Loma Linda University with my doctoral degree in physical therapy at 24 years old, and will start working as a travel physical therapist in the near future.

When I was younger, I wanted to grow up to become a pediatrician, a psychiatrist, and finally I thought about becoming a physical therapist. The determining factor was not how much money I had, but how driven I needed to be to obtain my goal. Turning to God for help was among the first things I did when trying to figure out what I wanted to be, then I actually job-shadowed those careers.  Turns out that physical therapy was the career that
“lit my heart up” and I knew from that point that I was willing to go all out for that which called out to my heart…my purpose.

Take home message:
Money should never be used as a limiting factor in choosing a career, and neither should a lack of exposure to various job opportunities.  If you want something, seek after it and if its for you God will open the door and show you how to obtain it.  Yes, the journey is tough but the toils seem all worth it when you’ve reached your destination and can actually function in the purpose that God has called you.  So be encouraged if you haven’t found your nitch in life or are still on the road to accomplishing your goal.  God has a purpose for your life, and He wants you to become what He’s created you to be.  So don’t limit a limitless God…trust Him by stepping out in faith that He’ll keep you through you scholastic journey…keep you through periods of joblessness, un-decidedness, and career changes.  I am a witness, and if He has helped me achieve my goal from a little girl, the same God, who is un-changing in character, will do the same for you!
